BIJOU CAFE

Date of our visit(s) --  August 13, 2008
* Address -- 132 SW 3rd Ave
* Phone Number 503-222-3187
* Hours  Monday - Friday 7AM to 2PM, Sat & Sunday 8AM to 2PM

* Comments of Decor -- tall ceilings, open inviting space, good size place, lots of tables with blue and white checked table clothes, not cramped, some room to sit and wait for a table...

* The Food Was --  not so wonderful the day we were there...but we all got egg dishes....and the pancakes that the people at the next table had looked mighty good.  The veggie omelet that we ordered was suppose to have cheese in it but we couldn't locate any cheese at all.  It felt like a place that was trying to impress you with accoutrement (organic catsup on the table) but if you got past the surface (ie. the organic label) the content was not there to be impressed by (i.e. catsup was really watery).  But--the pancakes on the next table did look really good--so maybe we just ordered the wrong thing. On the other hand if you have to search for something good on the menu that is a bit of a downer.
* You Ought to Try --something other than the Veggie Omelet or the Organic catsup.
* The Service Was -- superior, very friendly.
* Of special note - good coffee, and, curiously, one of only a handful of Portland breakfast places listed in Frommers.  How did that happen with so many extraordinary breakfast places to choose from.
* We will go back? might and might not --we will look for comments from others to see if anyone wants to be an advocate for the place.
